This week, I was successful in finalizing my original work topic, which is a non-clinical study on relieving anxiety in high-school age students with gaze-contingent attention-bias modification therapy. However, in order to settle on this topic, I had to perform extensive research on how the therapy worked and how I could implement such procedures within my own study. I found that other researchers used diagnostic evaluations of subjects to determine where they were on a scale of anxiety diagnoses and whether or not their mental disorders were impacted by underlying or connected conditions, such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), major depressive disorder (MDD), attention deficit disorder (ADD), and others. Subjects with these conditions were not able to participate in the study as the researchers required accuracy within the procedures to determine whether the therapy had concrete effects on the anxiety and wasn't diluted by other underlying conditions. Through this learning, I hope to solidify a plan as to how exactly I will conduct my study with the exact specifics of which diagnostic tests I will use, which dot-probe tests I will utilize, how I will administer the tests, and where I will collect subjects from. I hope to accomplish all of these tasks going forward to produce a successful and impactful Original Work.
