Over the break, I had the opportunity to interview more professionals who I believe may be best aligned with my interests for my mentorship. Although I had a wonderful experience interviewing Mr. Ben-Zion and Dr. Hitt who taught me about anxiety and depression neural mechanisms from a neurological standpoint, and Dr. Didehbani and Dr. LoBue who shared their passions for traumatic brain injury (TBI) and chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) and their effects on patient behavior, I still felt like I was searching for a mentor that would best align with my research interests. With my additional time off, I scheduled two more interviews with professionals in the field of clinical psychology in hopes that their research interests would better align with mine. My first interview was with Dr. Sunita Stewart who specializes in adolescent psychiatry at UT Southwestern Medical Center. I felt incredibly honored to speak with Dr. Stewart on her work in Hong Kong and America and the clinical trials she has administered under funding at Children's Medical Center and UT Southwestern. I definitely feel like she could serve as a potential mentor due to her decades of expertise in psychology and wide breadth of experiences in various roles in the healthcare field. I definitely feel I was successful in conducting my interview with Dr. Stewart and felt that we had a good rapport. I am looking forward to working further on my Original Work throughout this week and interviewing Dr. Steve Stratowski of the UT Austin Dell Medical Center tomorrow!
