Last week, I had trouble deciding my final product as there were so many ambitious ideas I wanted to pursue but none that I really could bring into fruition. At first I wanted to explore insurance reform for equalizing the pay for vaginal deliveries and Cesarean sections in order to reduce the nationwide rate for cesarean sections, but after discussing with my mentor, I soon realized that this reform would only target a minority population of OB/GYNs and not have very widespread impacts. My second idea that I proposed was exploring the impact of libido (sex drive) enhancing apps on brain function. However, this idea seemed to focus on neurology and understanding how the brain was affected rather than exploring the field of OB/GYN. Also, exploring low libido apps are very controversial as I am not sure how appropriate it would be to present in front of a crowd of my closest peers and family members. After a discussion with Coach Goff, I finally decided to settle on a patient's guide to a pap smear as my final product. Pap smears are incredibly common and millions are performed every year, but women seem to lack a concrete understand of how they actually work. In a simple and easy-to-understand guide, I want to convince women that Pap smears are actually beneficial and provide a thorough understanding into how they work. I hope to start my research tomorrow and explore all the facets of a pap smear as much as possible.
