Although I haven't been able to go on mentor visits due to the COVID-19 outbreak, I am continuing to keep in contact with my mentor and email her with any questions or concerns I have. We are unfortunately unable to have virtual mentor visits because usually my mentor visits require direct shadowing of patient treatment, and with the clinic closed, I don't have any topic of discussion. Luckily, my final product is a patient guide which is created on the computer, so it requires minimal patient contact or observation. So far, I have adjusted my calendar to accommodate with the length of my sections, and have been steadily working on Part 1: The Overview of A Pap Smear. I've completed Part 1A: The History of A Pap Smear so far, but one problem I've encountered is the fact that this type of writing is completely different from what I'm used to writing. I usually write in professional writing with an academic format, but in order for all women of different backgrounds and socioeconomic status to comprehend my guide, I have to write in basic language that is understandable with easy to understand vocabulary. This is completely different from my original work as my original work was directed towards physicians with a wide variety of complex medical jargon and vocabulary, but hopefully I will be able to write in a manner that is understandable for all women.
