I finished my section on the History of a Pap smear, but what concerns is me is the fact that readers will not be engaged by the history of a Pap smear. Although it may seem unimportant for them to know who invented the procedure and why it came to be, I believe it will allow patients to understand why the procedure is uncomfortable now and how Pap smears have been beneficial throughout history. After I finished this section, I moved on to the section for Causes of Cervical Cancer, which is one of the most important sections in my paper as it identifies what the risks for cervical cancer are and why it is essential to avoid risk factors if possible. These risk factors also help identify why it is necessary to get a Pap smear, so I am glad that all of my portions are coming together to support one main thesis. I then revised and edited Part I: Overview of Pap Smear (which included the previous sections), and polished the total Part I so it would be ready for completion. I finally read through some patient forums on the internet and talked to my mom about her Pap smear experience and what misconceptions she had. Then I researched the Clinical Lab Act as mentioned in my Research Assessement #10, and started writing the section on Patient Misconceptions. I hope to complete Part 2 soon and move onto Part 3 of my project.
